Description

poly(2-3)glucose™ T1-30-F forms hydrogel membranes and coatings that are soluble in organic solvents and swellable in water. The hydrogel is biocompatible and semi-permeable. Unlike its sister product, T1-30, T1-30-F does not dissolve in water at any temperature, instead it inbibes water to form a hydrogel. The amount of water inbibed corresponds to the film porosity, and it decreases with increasing temperature. At 37 C T1-30-F is about 50 wt% water. T1-30-F can be cast and extruded by plasticizing with organic solvent or heat. Films of T1-30-F can be solvent sealed or heat sealed. It is packaged as 0.5 grams of freeze dried polymer in 10 ml serum bottles. Add organic solvent directly to the bottle to make stock polymer solution. There is space to dilute down to a 5% solution. Alternatively, remove aliquots; the freeze dried material is easily crumbled for weighing. Polymer T1-30-F is recommended for macro-encapsulation devices as a semi-permeable, biocompatible membrane, and for coating implantable devices in order to avoid foreign body response.
